A file for your filing cabinet

Hello Ladies!
I hope you are all doing well in this reading challenge. This post is a little overdue but I had trouble finding the media link- but finally had success this afternoon.

As I was reading 1 Nephi Chapter 7 I couldn't help but think of an Education Week talk given by Pres. Kim B. Clark of BYU-I. It was a talk that I listened to many of times as I did chores around my apartment at college.

It talks about the "wilderness experience" and how we can be during that time. Take a chance if you feel so inclined to read or listen to it.
Here is the link: http://www2.byui.edu/Presentations/Transcripts/EducationWeek/2008_07_31_Clark.htm

Its going to be snowy night- get your shovels ready.

Can I Read This to You?

Do you ever feel like you're having a hard time concentrating while you are reading? Is the room too quiet for you? Sometimes I just want someone to read with me, or to me.

The Church has put out audio recordings of the Book of Mormon, Bible, the rest of the standard works, General Conference, and even our lesson manuals! You can download them from iTunes for FREE! And if you don't have iTunes, you can download them straight from the Church's website

If you download the audio recordings of the scriptures, I would encourage you to read along with the recording instead of just listening to it. That way, as you follow along, you can take a moment, and write down your thoughts, or really stop to ponder the things that you have read.

In case you are having trouble locating the links to download the audio recordings here they are:

For those visitors to our blog, our Relief Society is reading the Book of Mormon together in 60 days. The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ. Below is a video explaining more about the Book of Mormon. (Girls, it's a great video, you can watch it too!) If you would like to know more about the Book of Mormon, please visit www.lds.org or mormon.org.

Finally, The Schedule

Hi ladies! Sorry I haven't put the schedule up sooner. It's been a hectic couple of weeks. Hopefully you have all been able to keep up with your reading. And if you've had a harder time of reading your 3 pages a day, never fear! You can catch up! I promise, you can! If you need a pep-talk just let me know.

Day 4

Hey Girls!

It's a big reading day today! Well, it just sounds like it is. Tonight we should read through 1 Nephi Chapter 7.

Here's something that I thought was neat last night:

In 1 Nephi 4:6-18, Nephi tells about his experience where he came upon Laban in the street. I had always thought it was an answer to Nephi and his family's prayers that they were able to get the plates, yes. But I had never thought about Laban, until last night. He was passed out. He was not afraid when he died, and he probably didn't feel any pain. That was a blessing to Laban.

It says in verse 13:
While Heavenly Father wants to "bring forth his righteous purposes," He doesn't wish pain on any of His children, because He loves us.

Neat, huh.

Did anything stand out to you?

Day 1

Alright, time to "gird up your loins," girls, 'cause here we go! We issued a challenge, and while some of your eyes may have bulged out of your heads, it looked like we are ready to go!

We are going to read the Book of Mormon, together, in 6 months! Tonight you should read through 1 Nephi Chapter 2.

If you feel intimidated, just check back here! Post your thoughts about what you read! We are all here with you!

And remember this:

Scriptures are like packets of light that illuminate our minds and give place to guidance and inspiration from on high. They can become the key to open the channel to communion with our Father in Heaven and His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ. The scriptures provide the strength of authority to our declarations when they are cited correctly. They can become stalwart friends that are not limited by geography or calendar. They are always available when needed. Their use provides a foundation of truth that can be awakened by the Holy Ghost. Learning, pondering, searching, and memorizing scriptures is like filling a filing cabinet with friends, values, and truths that can be called upon anytime, anywhere in the world.
